early HOWELS ROOT BEER mechanical advertising toy. (sitting position) Made in USA. 1920's vintage or earlier. 8.25" tall by 2.25" wide. Wooden and paper litho on wood. Sides are embossed DRINK HOWEL'S ROOT BEER. Character is wearing a brownie type outfit. His face has some red - almost clown-like - features. His arms and legs are jointed at the hips and shoulders. The two bars side bars are held in place by tight string. As you squeeze the two sides together he spins and twirls and does acrobatic maneuvers. Great action. NOTE that on each side of his hat it says HOWEL'S ROOT BEER. No doubt; he is the mascot; or in modern terms he is an advertising doll? All original and in excellent condition; works great. Minor paper loss on his butt on one side. On the other side; there are some pinhead paper nicks on his hat. (standing position). Great advertising piece; great toy. 175.00

The wrappers slide into place and can be removed - as ascertained by the two Beech Nut wrappers which obviously did not come with a Wrigley's advertising piece. the Juicy Fruit has small surface tear on reverse otherwise they are all near mint to mint.
