EARLY VINTAGE STUFF

1930's BOAT RACES broadside or poster.  lightweight cardboard stock.  green on cream.  INBOARD HYDROPLANE BOAT RACES - GRIGGS DAM COL'S O. Sanctioned by American Power Boat Association.  Sponsored by Franklin Count Fire Fighters Association and the Scioto Boat Club. July 30.  undated but definitely 1930's vintage.  graphics of the G-17 and G-26 neck and neck.  some edge damage but overall will frame up very nicely.  measures approx. 22" by 14".  because it is on a light stock cardboard I don't imagine many have survived.  nice display piece from an early bygone era!  149.00

circa 1910 vintage wooden pencil box.   SPEED BOAT or early HYDROPLANE Gold Cup style race regatta. Three different boats are in the scene.  the one is called NAP III. In the foreground there are spectators visible. In the far off background across the water is the outline of a domed building. The boat in the background has exposed engine with driver in front of engine and co-pilot in the rear. The other 2 boats have a hood over the engine with both pilot and co-pilot behind it.  Colorful paper litho on black wooden box.   Box has hinged lid and built-in key lock. Approx. 8” by 2.5” by 1.5”.  overall very nice condition with light soiling and stains.  STILL a great display piece!  138.00

circa 1920 OUTBOARD MOTOR HYDROPLANE BOAT RACING item.  outstanding display piece.  not quite 10.5" tall.  glass and pewter.  Amber bottle has pewter top and pewter "jacket".   Nicely detailed carved scene of racing outboard tearing down the lake with trees and mountains in background.  In all of my years of doing this I have never seen another.  No flaws; a magnificent piece.  Possibly made as a presentation piece.  250.00

TROPHIES & AWARDS

rare Mobil Gasoline 1958 RUDY BERGER hydroplane trophy.  Here is a truly unique piece of Unlimited Hydroplane Boat Racing History. This IS the real thing; guaranteed authentic. The engraved plaque reads: MOBIL - HONORARY - CREW CHIEF AWARD - 1958 - PRESENTED TO - RUDY BERGER - FOR OUTSTANDING - SERVICE - Hydro Racing Team by Don K. Bagley (facsimile signed).
A quick history: Rudy Berger was the Crew Chief of the US 1 Hydroplane in 1962 when it set the then world record of 200.4 mph. I do NOT know who he crewed for in 1958; the year he was presented this award. MOBIL Gasoline supplied the fuel to most; if not all of the hydroplanes.
This is classic 1950's with gold finished metal fittings on blonde wood There is an Eagle with raised wings over to the far left, that is approx. 2.5" tall. There is a 6" long Hydroplane Race Boat to the right, mounted on a raised platform. The engraved section measures approx. 4.75" by 3". Overall, the wooden base is approx. 9" by 5" , and the whole piece stands approx, 8.5" tall. Hard to get a good photo without glare and reflection. So please forgive the quality of our images. There is extremely minor wear to the finish of the boat toward the rear of the sponson. There are no breaks, no gouges, no stains, no flaws. A superb display item, and a definite piece of unlimited history!  Truly one of a kind!  395.00

original artwork.  Unique, one of a kind portrait art of legendary hydroplane race driver CHIP HANAUER.  signed and dated 1981.   inscription on reverse from the artist, to Bob Williams, the founder of the original Hydroplane Museum.   Very good looking piece.   This was an item from Bob's personal collection.  sorry, but I do not know the artist's name (first initial is possibly a "J" and the last name is possibly "Mesa").  Obviously, he is very talented.  The overall measurements of the matte are approx 17.5" by 14".  The artwork is approx. 15.5" by 12.5" and the actual portrait illustration is approx. 8" by 7.75".   this piece has been double matted with a thin plastic piece to protect the image.  This is the ORIGINAL art, not a mass produced item.   quick notes: winner of a record 12 APBA Gold Cups, member of the Motorsports Hall of Fame (in 1995, the youngest member inducted!).  driver of the Barney Armstrong Machine, Squire Shop, Atlas Van Lines, Circus Circus, and of course, The Miss Budweiser.   89.50
